Ian Dencker has a long and varied career in the NSW public and private sector spanning over 30 years.

Ian has a very strong public sector administrative and finance background having worked for both the NSW Public Works Department and the Department of Planning in senior administrative roles. Ian is also a professional urban and regional planner with both undergraduate and post-graduate university qualifications.

He has worked in local government since 1989 and has enjoyed steady career progression from a Senior Town Planner with Yarrowlumla Shire Council to his recent role as Deputy General Manager at Cumberland Council and current role as an expert local government contractor.

Ian has acted as the General Manager for both Burwood and Cumberland Councils from time to time. Ian can switch between executive management roles to expert planning roles as demonstrated by his employment history.

 

Recent local government accomplishments as a contractor include the following:

  • 2019 – Penrith City Council – Assessing JRPP development applications including those associated with the Aerotropolis.
  • 2019 – Muswellbrook Shire Council – Heading up DA Process Improvements Project.
  • 2017/19 Wollondilly Shire Council – Acting Manager Development Services assisting with a major review of Council’s development assessment functions, establishing the new LPP as well as other initiatives including the introduction of Infocouncil and better utilisation of the Authority CRM system. Acting Director of Planning 2019.
  • 2017 – Lake Macquarie City Council – preparing detailed internal strategic planning responses to a range of major development applications lodged with Council including new release areas, sensitive coastal/foreshore infrastructure projects, and large residential flat buildings.
  • 2017 – Liverpool City Council – project managing amendments to the Liverpool Local Environmental Plan 2008 and the Liverpool Development Control Plan 2008 relating to the Liverpool City Centre. Liverpool is positioning itself as the capital city of the Sydney South West Region and the third largest centre in the Sydney Metropolitan Region. It will experience significant growth in the coming decade bringing a whole raft of challenges and pressure to get the planning processes right.
  • 2016/17 Griffith City Council – assessing State significant and designated development applications including some of the largest rural industries in the Southern Hemisphere. Griffith is experiencing significant growth with companies such as Baiada Poultry (Bartter/Steggles Chickens) and Casella Wineries (Yellow Tail) expanding production to meet increased global demand. Also assessed a raft of local DAs covering retail, commercial, industrial proposals as well as rural and rural/residential subdivisions both small and large.
